The first time I saw him, he was sunning himself on MY balcony. Quite pleased and content to just lie their lazing around not perturbed in the least bit about me (how rude!!). For a start when I did see him there I truly thought I was hallucinating!!! I had just about done with relocating a wasp hive to a better place that morning - yes again from my balcony and I had stepped out to recover from the ordeal!! So by the time I got back, I thought I'd have a nice quite afternoon reading a book. Had finally got my hands on "Mr Rosenblums's List" by Natasha Solomons and was looking forward to reading this so called "Utterly charming and very funny" book! And there he was spotted.....through the corner of my eye from my couch! A splendid view of Mr "Buzz" Aldry - a garden lizard over a foot in length (NOTE: Over a WHOLE FOOT!!!) drying himself out!!!!
So there I was being held siege for a couple of hours. Invariably resorted to facebooking as an alternative to the now impossible task of hanging the laundry out to dry and I found myself reading about a colleague's pleasant encounter with nature on facebook..... "Cat came meowing at the window. Gave it some polish sausage. It then went for a look around my house and settled on the bottom of my bed for a nap". That's left me wondering (no, no, definitely not thinking of handing out polish sausages to "Buzz" )...to whom should I convey my gratitude for the continuous stream of truly exotic species (species of possums, bats, wasps and now this.. ) visiting my medieval siege tower - my belfry
Of course eventually (when all else fails and fate was sealed to co-exist for the next few hrs!) I had to go through the whole naming ceremony for my very own mr Mr.Flying Trapeze Artist/Mr. Lizzy....hmmm choices choices!!! - James Cook or Columbus or Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin!! Cook as the principal explorer of Australia...Columbus as I don't know just seems to fit the distinguished dude! Or "Buzz" which has a certain ring to it and considering he likes to eat all things that go Buzz!! and Edwin as a first name suits as looks kinda dignified and gentelmanly! So there evolved Mr. Edwin "Buzz" Aldry!!! - first massive-sized lizard to land on my balcony in history!
Any call outs readers, in wanting to adopt a foot long garden lizard(just yell out to yours truly - Collector of all things exotic that creep, crawl, burrow, buzz, etc..and counting)??

Can we see full size color photos of your latest pet? I am asking this q of the lizard, YS, since animals seem to acquire you rather than the other way around. -:)
ReplyDeleteGerald Durrell would have taken you on all his expeditions - all he had to do was station you at a likely spot and soon, the animals would all want to come hang out with you - imagine the hours of chasing saved! LOL!
@Nits - That's soooo NOT funny!!!...the thought of being stationed at a spot to aid Gerald Durrell on his expeditions makes me shudder and sends shivers down my spine!! oh well, I can't help it if animals love to hang out with me! :(
